Since I’m still learning the flora and fauna of Texas, I get very excited whenever I find a new species. While hiking at Enchanted Rock Natural Area near Fredricksburg, TX, I came across this little fellow. My first Texas toad (Bufo speciosus)!

I also saw all sorts of other Texas firsts during my hike at Enchanted Rock … Road runners, javelinas, opossums, deer, and of course the baby raccoon who tried to make off with my trail mix!
